A Study site right on your doorstep!

School Yard Detectives outreach programme aims to introduce students to their own school playground not as a place to play games at break time but as an important habitat for a variety of plants and wildlife in their local environment.

Programme topics include
- plant and animal identification
- animal tracks and signs
- school ground habitats
- food chains and life cycles
- the importance of our school yard habitats in our every day life

Audience level
This programme is suitable for all classes

Session layout
The School Yard Detectives programme begins indoors with an interactive Powerpoint Presentation followed by an outdoor investigation of the habitats identified around the school.
Outdoor activities include
- Invertebrate hunt
- Tree study
- Bird survey
- Habitat survey
